Concept Post 6: The Tower Stands

A world that’s been hit by a disaster in the past, Most of it is wild and uninhabitable, ravaged by … monsters and environmental hazards and all sorts of crap. Out in the wilds are the relics of an ancient precursor civilisation.

As far as the people this setting focuses on goes, the only bastion of civilisation is one tower city, a refuge created by the ancients, running on ancient technology/magitek/unobtanium. But the tower’s crowded, and the years have taken their toll… and only a certain subset of people can fully utilise a lot of the technology left by the ancients.

[Tech users] (I need a better word) are respected enough, but their lives’ courses are more or less set in stone once it’s realised that they have the capability. Maintaining or researching the technology, perhaps. Some are almost linked into the tower city to control its systems. But a lot wind up utilising - tech augmentations/armour suits/robots? Idk - to go out exploring the wilds, the only ones able to survive out there, scavengers and scouts and rangers and archaeologists… they bring back valuable information and resources. it’s a tough life, but someone’s got to do it…

Unfortunately, there's only so much ancient stuff to go around? Exploration can only happen so fast. A lot of ancient tech gets recycled and “inherited” by the next person who needs it. Can get a bit ghoulish. And some of it's wearing out.
Users’ powers can be draining on them, too?

Possible cast:
Someone being expected to become a tower controller going ‘nope I wanna go out and explore’.
-Accidentally an explorer rather than a choice? Didn’t even consider it an option, but then gets caught up in stuff.
Someone who feels like they’re too dumb to use their ...ancient alignment for anything except exploring.
Someone from a powerful governing family or something who’s being pressured to keep their things secret.

Breath of the Wild - perhaps Guardian knockoffs protecting important sites.
Stand Still, Stay Silent - a bunch of dorks out in the dangerous, unexplored wilds...
