A collection of species, some more alien than others, initially created for a sci-fi MMO type setup or game concept. Inspired by the usual tropes but hopefully with their own twists.

The setting focus is out on a space colony world, where the five species in question meet and mingle and work together. When they can get along.
This universe is somewhat saturated by a (F)force referred to here as Flux, for the sake of a working name; it provides a power source for nifty psionic abilities and the likes.

* "Humans" / the Terrai (sing. Terran?)

Somewhat outsiders to space society. Terrai are known for general levels of grit, determination, and ships that are held together by galactic duct tape and general willpower. Their homeworld, name unspecified in this setting, was lost a long time ago; think of Battlestar Galactica, or perhaps the Quarians. As Totally Not Earth was in a low-Flux part of the galaxy, they never developed the technology or biological mechanisms to utilise it until lately; they use tech to do what other species might do naturally. That said, this has the upside that they have a certain amount of extra stamina from not having to naturally process it all. Or something.
(The intention here is that the human analogues aren't 'the default jack-of-all-stats species'; however, they would have high HP cancelled out by low psionic skill, hopefully making them nice and simple to grasp.)

* "Beep Boop" / the Syncra (sing.: Syncron)

An ancient race of robotic/mechanical beings. Their creators are long gone and long forgotten, but possibly the colony world was their home at one point? They're not big clunky bottos, being carefully crafted and Very Shiny and Glowy.
While they're not likely to start fights, they are designed to be able to end them quickly; in fact, they tend to regard organic races as precious fragile things that they need to look after.

* "Birbies" / the Chiroki (sing. Chirok?)

A race of diminutive avians (though ones who lost the ability to fly?), and a very social and curious bunch who tend to 'flock together' and pull anyone nearby into it. If there's something that needs poking at, they'll often be found poking it; they're actually talented scientists, though they're known for blowing things up as much as they are getting a sensible result...!

* "Mermaid Elves" / the Pascadin (sing: Pascat)

A semi-aquatic race, with brilliant colours, iridescent markings, fun tentacles, and a particular affinity for the way Flux moves in a 3D environment. Big on aesthetics, big on song, and kind of insufferable if you spend too long around them. While they're decently generous and seem welcoming it's clear that they think their special skills make them the bees' knees compared to other species.

* "Valkyries" / the ???

The descendants of a great space empire that faded out a long time ago, but they're more keen on celebrating the glory days of honour and old heroes than doing anything imperial. While they're an intimidating bunch, they're surprisingly meritocratic; any beings who conduct themselves with courage and honour are welcomed among them with open claws, and even though they have a complex social hierarchy it's one that can be moved around by anyone who can prove themselves.
Might be somewhat bear-like in base design, but how to make that look good?

Using the old TV tropes five classic species definitions as an inspiration/comparison:
* Terrai are Mundane/Stout
* Syncra are High/Fairy
* Chiroki are Cute/Mundane
* Pascadin are Fairy/Cute
* "Valkyries" are Stout/High

As a note, Terrai and "Birbs" tend to have males taller than females, Pascadin and "Valkyries" tend to have females taller than males, and Syncra are genderless (and are fine with being called any pronoun that doesn't imply they're Things).
